The Ohio State Buckeyes haven't had the best luck when chasing five-star offensive linemen lately, but that won't stop first-year OL coach and recruiter Tyler Bowen from trying. Known more for his chops on the recruiting trail than his predecessor, the Buckeyes are already in decent shape in the pursuit of the No. 1 blocker and No. 2 overall player in 2027, Mark Matthews.
The Fort Lauderdale product is starting to make his list as his junior season approaches, and the Buckeyes have found themselves in his early top-five rankings. The 6-foot-5, 301-pounder said Florida State, Tennessee, Ohio State, Notre Dame, and Michigan are putting in the best efforts so far.
He also wants to visit several others in the region, as expected, but he's open to wildcards like Nebraska and Oregon, too. But the Buckeyes already have a strong profile and produced three notable NFL talents last year is a big positive for the program. Matthews said the team's success and NFL pipeline is huge.
“Ohio State, the o-line coaches there have sent a lot of guys to the league and that means a lot,” Matthews said.
We'll continue to track Matthews' recruitment and visit schedule. If he makes the effort to get to Columbus for a game, then Bowen and head coach Ryan Day may need to go all-out to finally land an elusive blindside prospect out of high school.
