Top quarterback in transfer portal makes decision
Will Howard Scott Sewell-USA TODAY Sports

Will Howard has made a transfer decision and revealed the news on Thursday.

Howard has committed to join the Ohio State Buckeyes. The former Kansas State quarterback chose Ohio State over Miami, USC and the possibility of entering the NFL draft.

Howard said his goal was to win a national championship with Ohio State and develop into an eventual NFL quarterback.

“The goal I have, I want to go win a national championship,” Howard told ESPN’s Pete Thamel. “At the end of the day, I want to go be a starting quarterback in the NFL…I feel like the best place to stick as a quarterback in the NFL is as a first or second-round pick in the NFL Draft. Going to Ohio State gives me a chance to make a jump and leap into that conversation.”

Howard spent the past four seasons at Kansas State, where he passed for 2,643yards, 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions this season while rushing for 351 yards and nine touchdowns. He led the Wildcats to the Big 12 championship in 2022. Kansas State went 9-4 this season.

Ohio State needed a new quarterback after Kyle McCord decided to leave the program and transfer to Syracuse. The Buckeyes offense looked putrid in a 14-3 loss to Missouri in the Cotton Bowl, which likely increased the team’s urgency to add a new QB.

Howard has one year of eligibility remaining.
