Transfer defensive lineman announces he plans to visit the Tennessee Vols
Mark Stewart / Milwaukee Journal Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Tennessee Vols will receive a visit this weekend from a Big 10 defensive lineman that recently entered the NCAA transfer portal.

Wisconsin transfer defensive lineman James Thompson tweeted on Friday that he plans to visit Tennessee this weekend.

Thompson is a former three-star recruit who signed with the Badgers during the 2020 recruiting cycle.

247Sports rates Thompson as a four-star transfer prospect and the No. 5 defensive lineman currently in the portal.

Thompson played in just one game as a true freshman in 2020. Over the last three seasons, Thompson played in 39 games for Wisconsin with 18 starts.

The Cincinnati native played in just one game in 2024 due to a torn pectoral muscle.

In 2022 and 2023, Thompson totaled 52 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, and five sacks.

Tennessee is set to lose a couple of key defensive linemen after the 2024 season, so it's no surprise that they're exploring the idea of adding some defensive linemen from the transfer portal.
