In transfer portal news, Penn State is going after at least one kicker.
Penn State football’s kicking game started out as one of the team’s weaknesses in 2023 but turned into a strength.
In the team’s Week 1 win over West Virginia, kicker Sander Sahaydak missed two field goals.
For the next week’s game against Delaware, Alex Felkins was the starting kicker, and he never lost the job.
Felkins performed quite well, ending the year making 18 of 22 field goals as well as all 45 of his extra points. Penn State got Felkins, once a Columbia kicker, from the transfer portal. But Felkins is out of eligibility, and Penn State needs to replace him. Well, at least one candidate has emerged. Chase Meyer is in Happy Valley for his official visit, he posted to social media Thursday evening.

Meyer entered the portal after spending the 2023 season at Tulsa and the 2022 season at Penn. At Penn, his main responsibility was kickoff duty. At Tulsa, he had a bigger role and succeeded in that role, making 17 of 20 field goals and 30 of 31 extra points.
Meyer comes from California’s famous Mater Dei High School. At Mater Dei, he was part of a national championship team and made all-state.
Penn State also has in-house options. Shayhadak has two years of eligibility left. PSU also has Ryan Barker, a walk-on from the ’23 class.
While James Franklin and his staff are looking into the transfer portal, they also have to worry about Ole Miss.
PSU plays Ole Miss in the Peach Bowl scheduled for Dec. 30 in Atlanta, Georgia. If Penn State wins, it will become the first program to win every New Year’s Six bowl game.
