Transfer Watch: Top Mid-Season FCS Freshmen Named

The Jerry Rice Award is one of the top FCS post-season honors, which is annually given to the top freshman in the country. Some of the recent winners include WR Cooper Kupp (Eastern Washington), QB Cam Ward (Incarnate Word), QB Shedeur Sanders (Jackson State) and RB Chase Edmonds (Fordham).

Another winner worth mentioning is running back CharMar Brown (North Dakota State), who won the award last year and then transferred to Miami. This season with the Canes he has rushed for 234 yards and four touchdowns. Brown magnifies the importance of the released 22 player watch list, as many of these names may end up on an FBS roster next season. Here are some of the names to keep an eye on:

Quarterbacks

• Braden Atkinson (Mercer)

In five games, Atkinson has completed 122 of 174 passes (70%) for 1,515 yards, 16 touchdowns and four interceptions

• Cason Carswell (Western Illinois)
• 6-foot-3, 190-pounds
• Mason, Michigan

In six games, Carswell has completed 116 of 168 passes (69%) for 1,256 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions

• EJ Colson (Incarnate Word)
• 6-foot-1, 190-pounds
• Byron, Georgia

In five games as a starter, the UCF transfer has completed 121 of 170 passes (68%) for 1,208 yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions; he has also rushed for 208 yards and two touchdowns

• Andrew Indorf (Towson)
• 6-foot-1, 195-pounds
• Miami, Florida

In seven games he has completed 120 of 194 passes (62%) for 1,458 yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions.

• Caden Pinnick (UC Davis)
• 6-foot-0, 200-pounds
• Loomis, California

In six games he has completed 104 of 150 passes (69%) for 1,414 yards, 16 touchdowns and two interceptions; he also rushed for 127 yards and two touchdowns

In seven games he has rushed for 755 yards and eight touchdowns while averaging 6.3 yards per carry; he also has 10 receptions for 73 yards

In seven games he has rushed for 765 yards and seven touchdowns while averaging 7.7 yards per carry; he also has six receptions for 23 yards
