Colorado Buffaloes two-way star Travis Hunter is undoubtedly one of the top talents in the nation. It's not as uncommon as one would think to play both sides of the ball, but it's almost unheard of when you're doing it as dominantly as Hunter is while playing nearly every snap.
He's listed as the favorite (-2500, BetMGM) to win the Heisman Trophy on Saturday, and in terms of his future, NFL scouts love what they see.
“That guy can play whatever he wants,” an anonymous AFC scout told ESPN.
Hunter continues to be predicted to land in the Top 5 of every NFL mock draft that rolls out, with some placing him as high as No. 1.
CBS Sports' Mike Renner released his latest first-round mock on Tuesday, projecting the former five-star recruit to be taken by the New England Patriots at No. 3.
If Renner's projection holds, Hunter would be the first non-quarterback taken after his teammate Shedeur Sanders and Miami's Cam Ward.
Renner believes the 6-foot-1, 185-pound receiver would immediately become rookie quarterback Drake Maye’s top target for the Patriots. He also predicts Hunter will line up alongside emerging cornerback Christian Gonzalez.
"Travis Hunter could be Drake Maye's new WR1 or team up with Christian Gonzalez for a no-fly zone," Renner said. "(Or both!) That's why he's the favorite to be the first non-quarterback selected come April."
In 2024, Hunter has 92 receptions, 1,152 yards, and 14 touchdowns while lining up at wide receiver. At cornerback, he's recorded 31 tackles, 11 passes defended, one forced fumble and four interceptions.
The West Palm Beach native will have one more opportunity to throw on a Buffs helmet when he takes the field on Dec. 28 against BYU. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
