On Monday, the increasingly cluttered trophy cabinet of Colorado star WR/DB Travis Hunter got another resident, this time the 2024 Lott IMPACT trophy given by the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation to the defensive player who, according to the Club website, "also exhibits the characteristics of Ronnie Lott by making an IMPACT on and off the field."
IMAPCT, the site notes, is, "an acronym for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity." It was named for NFL Hall of Fame cornerback Ronnie Lott, who starred for 14 stellar seasons, mostly with the 49ers.
Hunter certain ranked among the best in colege football on that front. He was not only the No. 6-rated defensive back in college according to Pro Football Focus, he also was one of the best wide receivers in the nation--and an excellent student in the classroom.
As Colorado wrote on its website on Monday, "Hunter embodies all phases of the award as a first-team Academic All-American last year with a 4.0 semester and above a 3.7 overall grade point average. When he was injured due to a late hit his junior season, he embraced the player the following week on his social media channels, curbing threats the player was receiving."
On his Instagram account, Hunter posted a photo of him smiling with the trophy.
Hunter's fiancée, Leanna Lenee issued her response to the photo: "#GOAT," she wrote, followed by three smiling, heart-eyed emojis. An apt response.
Hunter has already won the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year award, and according to the school, "He is also a finalist for several other awards, including the Walter Camp and Maxwell overall player of the year awards, the Bednarik defensive player of the year award, the Hornung most versatile player of the year and the Biletnikoff award given to the nation's best receiver regardless of position."
Of course, Hunter is the favorite to win the ultimate individual prize in college football, the Heisman Trophy, which will be announced on Saturday.
