While most think the biggest question around Colorado's two-way star Travis Hunter is regarding what position he'll play in the NFL, the better question may be regarding what he can't do.
A question that may not have an answer based on how talented he is on and off the field. On the gridiron, Hunter put up jaw-dropping numbers on offense and defense, posting over 1,100 yards receiving and 15 total touchdowns on offense while picking off four passes and breaking up 11 on defense.
Off the field, he has been seen dominating pick-up basketball, dabbling in content creation and also always finding time to show fans appreciation. However, his most impressive accomplishment may not be his stats or his long list of awards, headlined by the Heisman Trophy he won this past Saturday. Instead, it may be his success in the classroom while balancing all of the aforementioned ventures.
As revealed in a release by the program earlier this week, Hunter was named an Academic All-American, sporting a 3.798 cumulative GPA.
"The junior from Suwanee, Georgia, is an anthropology major carrying a 3.798 cumulative GPA," read the release. "In the fall of 2023, Hunter earned a 4.0 GPA and followed that up with a spring 2024 semester GPA of 3.908, earning him first-team All-Academic Team honors."
The release also revealed that Hunter became the first Academic All-American to win the Heisman since former Florida Star Tim Tebow did so in 2007. While we more often see him praised for his athletic ability, Hunter's academic advisor, LaTonya Watson, expressed in the release just how hard he works in the classroom.
"Travis came to Colorado with a champion mindset transcending the football field to the classroom,” wrote Watson. “Along with that mindset, he set high goals and standards that continue to motivate him to be the best version of himself as he engages in his studies. The Herbst Academic Center staff is equally as proud of Travis’s academic accomplishments as his athletic accolades.”
It's clear that Hunter has had a lasting impact in Boulder, making his final game with the Buffs on Dec. 28 a bittersweet moment. He and the No. 23 Buffs will be taking on the No. 17 BYU Cougars in the Alamo Bowl in a game that will kick off at 7:30 ET and air on ABC.
After that game, the former No. 1 overall recruit, Heisman winner and Academic All-American will look to become the first overall pick in the NFL draft. It's another rare feat, considering it's typically reserved for quarterbacks, offensive tackles, or pass rushers, but based on how things have gone, if anyone can do it, it'd be Hunter.
