Unfortunately, this is the type of news that usually happens during the off-season. But for Florida State, they are now dealing with it now. It was announced that Class of 2026 four-star cornerback Chuck Kennon had been dismissed from the program after being arrested on Monday.
The news, first reported by Warchant.com, is another blow for a program that continually can’t find its footing. Losing Kennon, who was their highest ranked Class of 2026 signee, just adds to the misery of a season that isn’t going anywhere positive.
Having only played one snap this season, it was announced that Kennon was dismissed due to “conduct detrimental to the team.” And what was this conduct? He faces these three charges:
Aggravated Fleeing to Elude (Felony)
Any form of willfully fleeing or eluding law enforcement in a vehicle is automatically a felony in Florida. When it becomes “aggravated”—meaning high-speed flight with a wanton disregard for safety, or causing property damage/injury—it is elevated to a second-degree felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
False Imprisonment (Felony)
Forcibly, secretly, or by threat confining or restraining another person against their will without legal authority is classified as a third-degree felony, carrying a penalty of up to 5 years in prison. (It can be upgraded to a first-degree felony if the victim is a child under 13 under specific aggravating conditions)
Resisting Officer Without Violence (Misdemeanor)
Resisting, obstructing, or opposing law enforcement non-violently (such as running away on foot, tensing arms, or giving a false name) is a first-degree misdemeanor. It is punishable by up to 1 year in jail or probation.
