Sometimes the professional career of a football player has to take a couple of detours before they find success in the NFL. This is what running back Treshaun Ward is hoping for as he has begun his career in the CFL with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. If he continues to perform as he did over the weekend, then he is on the right path.

Ward began his collegiate career with Florida State before transferring to Kansas State and then Boston College. Overall, he rushed for 2,290 yards and 19 touchdowns while averaging 5.9 yards per carry. Ward also proved to be a capable receiver out of the backfield with 60 receptions for 608 yards and seven touchdowns.

However, after not getting selected during April’s NFL Draft and then not receiving any free agent offers, he signed with the Tiger-Cats on May 16th. Considering Ward was only with the team for a little more than a week, his performance against Toronto, eight carries for 76 yards and 1 touchdown, which came from 45 yards, was an eye-opener.

Even more eyes will be on Ward during Hamilton’s next preseason game on Friday night, which is also against Toronto, and then when the regular season officially begins on June 7th at Calgary. Many CFL players have made the jump to the NFL, with Ward eagerly attempting to prove that he should be one of the next.
