Trevor Etienne puts on another 'MVP' performance against Texas in Georgia's SEC Championship win

Georgia Bulldogs star running back Trevor Etienne was not expected to suit up for the SEC Championship due to a rib injury he had been nursing over the last month.

However, he ultimately suited up for the game anyway -- and there is no telling how things would have ended if he didn't.

Etienne scored Georgia's only two touchdowns in the 22-19 win, including the overtime rushing score to seal the game.

He finished the night running the ball 16 times for 94 yards and two scores. He also reeled in five catches for another 28 yards.

Following the victory, SEC officials awarded the conference MVP trophy to cornerback Daylen Everette for his two interceptions.

But head coach Kirby Smart believed Etienne was the MVP of the game for more than just his performance.

"Yeah, to me, Trevor Etienne probably, no disrespect to Daylen, I know Daylen had a big game and he got the MVP. But Trevor Etienne was the MVP. Because he came and said, Coach, I want to play this game. I came to this school because I want to win a championship. He stood up in front of the team and told the team, like, I don't know how y'all feel about this game because I haven't been here. But y'all have played in it a lot, and I haven't. And I want to play in this game.

"This game means something to me. I want to win this championship. It's part of the reason that I came here. I want to win the SEC championship. And he spoke from the heart. And I knew right then, I said, this dude is going to play if he can. And he plays physical. He's got cuts, and we've got good backs. But he made some special runs tonight that gave us some juice and energy. And he took some pressure off of Gunner."

Etienne is the main reason that Georgia has beaten Texas twice now as he also scored the only (three) touchdowns in the Bulldogs' regular-season win over the Longhorns back in October.

Thanks to Etienne and the win, Georgia gets a bye week to rest and recover before facing the winner of No. 10 Indiana vs. No. 7 Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl.
