Trevor Lawrence's return delayed as Clemson-Florida State postponed due to positive COVID-19 test

Unfortunately for Clemson fans, Trevor Lawrence's return to the football field has been delayed.

The projected No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft will have to wait another week to return. Clemson's matchup against Florida State has been postponed after the teams' medical staffs couldn't agree to continue with the game, the ACC announced Saturday.

"The postponement follows this morning's game conference call at which time both teams' medical personnel were unable to mutually agree on moving forward with the game. Both teams continue to adhere to the minimum outlined protocols within the ACC Medical Advisory Group report," the conference said in a statement.

Concerns arose after a Clemson offensive lineman reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.

Lawrence was set to make his highly anticipated return after battling the coronavirus in previous weeks and missing two games. Freshman quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei led the Tigers to a 1-1 record while Lawrence was sidelined. The win came against Boston College while the loss came against Notre Dame in overtime.

Clemson sits second in the ACC with a 7-1 record, behind only Notre Dame, which owns an undefeated record.

In its most recent top 25 poll, the Associated Press ranked Clemson as the fourth-best team in the nation while the Florida State Seminoles were left off the list. FSU is 2-6 on the season, ranking second-to-last in the ACC standings, ahead of only the 1-8 Syracuse Orange.
