The Spartans were set to face a major question mark at quarterback this year with Aidan Chiles' leaving the team. Then they found their guy when Chiles got injured, and Alessio Milivojevic performed well in the time he was given.

However, even as a high-ranked player within the team, he still has some question marks, as he did not have the full season to work with the offense last year and will be leading the team all season for the first time.

He is going to have a lot to prove among his fellow Big Ten quarterbacks, and there are two games in particular this season that will show if he's improved or taken a step back generally. Both are rematches where he and the team as a whole can prove themselves.

Game One: Nebraska

  • Aside from a one-pass game against the Western Michigan Broncos, Milivojevics' first game was against the Nebraska Cornhuskers, and he played well.
  • He completed six passes for 71 yards and a touchdown, keeping the team in the fight they ultimately lost by 11 points, but it was a great start.

  • This year, the Spartans will be facing off against Nebraska again as their first Big Ten conference game, and it will be the chance for Milivojevic to have a great start to his play once again, with the generally tougher competition, and if he does so, he will take a great step towards proving his consistency as a starting quarterback.

Game Two: UCLA

  • The Bruins were a shock to the Spartans last year, blowing them out in a game that would have normally been close, but ended up being anything but because of a surge of excellence coming from UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaleava and his offense.
  • This was the second game Milivojevic had some time on the field, and the first time that he received double-digit passing attempts, albeit when the game already seemed out of reach.

  • He was able to manage 100 yards passing and a touchdown in his 18 passing attempts, which was better than what Chiles was able to do in his time on the field, but Milivojevic was not able to get anything really going.
  • This year, he will have the opportunity to face the team again, and with how new both teams are, it will have much better odds at becoming a real clash, and if Milivojevic can keep his part in that by playing well, then he will be taking a massive step forward in proving that he can be a reliable quarterback for the near future.
