Tykee Smith Mentions WVU in NFL Draft Post
USA TODAY Sports

Georgia defensive back Tykee Smith began his career at West Virginia and in his announcement declaring for the 2024 NFL Draft, he made it a point to thank those in Morgantown that helped him get to this point.

"To begin, I would like to thank the coaches and staff at West Virginia for giving me the opportunity to begin my college football career. I'm forever grateful for the lessons learned and maturity gained while I was there," he said in his post.

During his two years in a Mountaineer uniform, Smith has tallied 114 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, one sack, four interceptions, 13 pass breakups, and one forced fumble. Smith was named a Third-Team AP All-American, Second-Team FWAA All-American, and was named a semifinalist for the Jim Thorpe Award which is given to the nation's best defensive back.

He suffered an injury during his first season with the Bulldogs, which limited him to just one game. However, he did factor into the secondary rotation in their second national championship team in 2022 recording 28 tackles. This season, Smith posted the best year of his career tallying 78 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, four interceptions, and two passes defended.
