UCF head coach Scott Frost does the Tennessee Vols a favor ahead of College Football Playoff

Earlier this month, the UCF Knights hired Scott Frost to replace Gus Malzahn as the program's head football coach.

One of the first moves Frost made after landing the gig at UCF was to hire Tennessee Vols offensive analyst McKenzie Milton as his quarterbacks coach

Frost, who was fired by Nebraska in 2022 after going 16-31 during his time as the Cornhuskers' head coach, was previously the head coach at UCF from 2016 to 2017. When Frost left Orlando for Nebraska after the 2017 season, UCF hired Josh Heupel, now the head coach of the Vols, to lead the program.

Milton, who was hired as an analyst by Tennessee ahead of the 2023 season, was the quarterback at UCF from 2016 to 2020, playing under both Frost and Heupel.

According to a tweet from ESPN's Chris Low, Milton will remain with Tennessee for the Vols' College Football Playoff run before transitioning to UCF full-time.

Milton has been part of Tennessee's game prep all season. Keeping that continuity during the playoff will obviously be beneficial for the Vols.

Given how chaotic December can be for college football coaches — especially those starting new jobs — it would have been easy for Frost to tell Milton he was needed in Orlando ASAP.

Instead, Frost is allowing his former player and new assistant coach to finish the season with the team he's been with all year. Hopefully, this is something we see more of from coaches in the future.

Tennessee will take on Ohio State in Columbus on December 21 at 8:00 PM ET in the first round of the College Football Playoff. The winner will advance to the quarterfinals where a showdown with Oregon awaits.
