UCF Loses Promising Freshman RB Taevion Swint to Meniscus Injury
Craig Bailey/Florida Today / USA TODAY NETWORK

UCF’s freshman backfield just took a hit.

Early enrollee running back Taevion Swint recently underwent surgery for a meniscus injury and will be sidelined for a while. The latest update offers no firm timetable for his return, though recovery could linger deep into the season.

Swint entered Orlando as one of the nation’s most dynamic freshmen in the Class of 2025. A native of Kissimmee, Florida, he was rated a four-star recruit and ranked among the top running backs in the state. UCF fans had reason for optimism. In high school, he posted eye-popping numbers with over 1,700 rushing yards, 25 touchdowns, and an explosive burst down the field. Scouts saw a back who could transform a rebuilt Knights offense.

UCF’s running back room remains solid elsewhere. Former Oklahoma State Cowboy Jaden Nixon is expected to get a big chunk of the workload. Still, Swint’s versatility, both in space and between the tackles, was expected to give UCF flexibility and a true home-run element.

Now the staff must recalibrate and lean on depth. Head coach Scott Frost is navigating a roster in transition. Plenty of portal turnover and new faces up front require a balanced attack from Day One. Losing Swint’s explosiveness narrows options, making every rep count for the remaining backs.

The silver lining is time. For Swint, rehab provides an opportunity to settle into the college game, build chemistry with teammates, and layer in film study. If he returns midseason, he could still carve out a role.

For UCF, the hope is that his absence is temporary and that the shifty back can still contribute in 2025. Right now, the focus must shift to readiness and adjustment, especially at a position where the ground game could determine how quickly this team rhythms up in a tough Big 12 slate.
