UCLA Senior Wide Receiver Acknowledges WR Coach's Positive Progress
USA TODAY Sports

The UCLA Bruins will look to improve and head out of the Pac-12 on top. Although there are some new faces both from the player's perspective and the coaching, there are still some familiar faces who've been around the program for quite a long time.

One coach that falls under that umbrella is wide receivers coach Jerry Neuheisel. Neuheisel is entering his third year as the wide receiver coach and has been a part of head coach Chip Kelly's coaching staff since the beginning.

Although Neuheisel is no stranger to the game of football, it has taken him a while to get more comfortable in the coaching realm of things. He's done a great job developing the Bruin wide receivers and should continue doing the same with this year's receivers' room.

Those inside the program have taken notice, including senior receiver Logan Loya. Loya talked big of Neuheisel and said he's progressed as a coach every year.

“(Neuheisel) grows every year, too, in how to coach receivers,” Loya said after Monday’s practice, the 11th of training camp. “Very, very, very smart football coach. He knows his ins and outs about everything, so it’s awesome to have him as a receivers coach.”

Neuheisel is a former quarterback at UCLA in the early 2010s, coming from Loyola High School in Los Angeles, and started his coaching career at Texas A&M in 2017.

He's been back at UCLA ever since and has helped the wide receiver groups reach their full potential. Last year alone, many of the wide receivers posted career-highs in pass receptions, and it was thanks to the former Bruin.

We should expect more of the same of this receivers group, and we'll see how they develop as the season goes by under Jerry.
