When Jim Mora was officially hired as the new football head coach of the UConn Huskies program last November, he mostly knew what he was getting himself into.
After all, UConn is hardly considered a college football powerhouse. Per Sports-Reference, the Huskies haven't appeared in a bowl game since the 2015 season and finished the 2021 campaign with a dismal 1-11 record.
It appears Mora has met a unique challenge associated with the job as he prepares for Saturday's season opener at the defending Mountain West champion Utah State Aggies.
For a piece published Friday, ESPN's Pete Thamel noted that Mora moved into "a stately old building set upon three acres on a hill above campus" at UConn. Readers who think the home sounds like something out of a Halloween movie are on the right track, or so Mora would have them believe.
"I'm convinced it's haunted," Mora recently explained while offering a chuckle over the situation. "I just warn everyone who stays that it's haunted, but they're good ghosts."
Mora delivered no specifics on any encounters he's had with spirits allegedly hanging out around and/or inside his home ahead of the football season, nor did he say how he knows they're on the "good" side. He's merely heard doors opening at night and noticed "ominous shadows and unexplained noises."
If nothing else, perhaps he can speak with members of the Tampa Bay Rays about how to properly deal with paranormal beings without showing fear.
