Urban Meyer Makes Florida Gators Prediction Ahead of 2025 Season

The upcoming college football season is shaping up to be an exciting one, with dozens of teams eyeing a spot in the new 12-team College Football Playoff. One SEC program that’s been on the outside looking in longer than fans would like is the Florida Gators.

Under head coach Billy Napier, the Gators have been steadily rebuilding, and many believe 2025 could be a breakout season in Gainesville.

Last week on the "Triple Option Show," former Florida head coach Urban Meyer shared his thoughts on the 2025 Gators and offered a prediction for the upcoming season.

While reviewing the Gators' schedule with Rob Stone, Meyer wrapped up his assessment by saying.

"I'm actually going to say they are going to be above the 7.5 wins."

Meyer specifically mentioned the tough mid-season stretch against LSU, Miami, Texas and Texas A&M. He penciled in a loss at LSU but gave the Gators "0.5" wins each for the next three, signaling cautious optimism.

One of those games, the road matchup at Miami, will be a rematch from last season’s opener in Gainesville. The Hurricanes dominated that game, winning 41-17.

When asked about the 2025 season opener on Aug. 30 against Long Island, Meyer joked, "It’ll be 115 heat index in the swamp for that one."

Florida finished the 2024 season with an 8-5 record, including a 4-4 mark in SEC play. The Gators ended the year on a high note, winning their last four games. Their final win came in the Gasparilla Bowl at Raymond James Stadium, where they crushed Tulane 33-8.

All signs point to D.J. Lagway taking over as the starting quarterback in 2025. Last season, Lagway threw for 12 touchdowns and gained valuable experience as the Gators prepared for the future.

With momentum building, Meyer’s confidence in the Gators crossing the 7.5-win mark may not be far off the mark.
