The Ohio State Buckeyes have enjoyed a historically good three-head coach run that includes Ryan Day, Urban Meyer, and Jim Tressel. While there was success even before then, Tressel installed a culture that revolved around beating Michigan every year. Recent years have been challenging for Day in that area, but Tressel and Meyer dominated their tenures in The Game.
Meyer's excellent career had as many peaks as any coach in college football history. While his time in Columbus ended prematurely and in some controversy like the rest of his jobs, he knew how to get the most out of a program that transformed from a regional force to a country-wide recruiting powerhouse.
This week, Meyer revealed his favorite four wins while at Ohio State, and Buckeye fans will love his response. With only a few weeks remaining until Ohio State looks to end its four-game skid against Michigan, this is the perfect motivator as anticipation builds.
Meyer listed the following games as his top battles throughout his seven-year career:
Each win was at home, and the Buckeyes notched a thrilling victory in highly anticipated games. His 2018 win was also his last in college.

Meyer’s tenure as head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes from 2012 to 2018 was marked by consistent excellence, but nowhere was his dominance more evident than in “The Game” — the annual rivalry clash with the Michigan Wolverines. Meyer compiled a perfect 7-0 record against Michigan, outscoring the Wolverines 275-189 across those matchups. His final win, a resounding 62-39 victory in 2018, capped his run with authority and underscored his mastery of the rivalry.
Meyer’s success didn’t emerge in a vacuum. He inherited a program that had already shifted the balance of power in the rivalry under Jim Tressel, who went 9-1 against Michigan from 2001 to 2010. Tressel famously declared upon his hiring that Buckeye fans would be proud “most especially in 310 days in Ann Arbor,” and he delivered, snapping a six-game losing streak and turning the tide in Ohio State’s favor.
Meyer continued Tressel’s legacy with an obsessive focus on Michigan. He reportedly employed a staff member whose sole responsibility was to monitor Michigan year-round. This level of preparation reflected Meyer’s deep respect for the rivalry and his understanding of its significance to Buckeye Nation.
Together, Tressel and Meyer combined for an astonishing 16-1 record against Michigan over nearly two decades, transforming Ohio State’s fortunes in one of college football’s most storied rivalries. Their success not only redefined expectations in Columbus but also reshaped the narrative of “The Game” for a generation.
