USC Football: DE Korey Foreman Still Searching for Rhythm as Fall Camp Ends
USA TODAY Sports

For the 2023 USC Trojans, the defense will be taking the spotlight. Their defense must be up to par if they aim to secure their first college football playoff berth. The Trojans' preseason improvements appear promising on paper, but we'll see if they have what it takes to translate that onto the gridiron.

Their defense will be the focal point this season, and in order to live up to expecations, the USC defense will have the best 11 players week in and week out. Yet, as things stand, things are not looking good for junior defensive lineman Korey Foreman.

Foreman's journey from a highly touted five-star recruit to the fall camp struggles is not promising. USC insider Ryan Kartje's recent update on Foreman didn't ring with the most encouraging news.

When USC defensive line coach Shaun Nua was asked at the start of camp about Korey Foreman, Nua struck an optimistic note about the frustrating former five-star recruit. He said that Foreman had come a long way from the previous year, when he struggled just to string two consecutive practices together.By the end of camp, Foreman was sidelined again, limited through a critical stretch of camp with what appears to be a shoulder injury. It’s just the latest setback for Foreman, who now faces stiff competition to keep his place in a suddenly deep defensive line rotation.

That is not exactly what you want to hear from the veteran defender.

In the first two seasons of his career, he has recorded 24 tackles, one interception, 4.5 tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks. There is still plenty of time for Foreman to turn things around, even though we're only a week away from the Trojans' first game.

The competition surrounding the defensive line will be a stiff one. This one could be tough to crack, but there's still plenty of time for Korey to turn things around and impress in the limited time he might face to start the season.
