USC Football: Linebacker Eric Gentry Leaves Lasting Impression in Week 0 Win
USA TODAY Sports

Your USC Trojans started the 2023 season on the right track, picking up the win against the San Jose State Spartans, 56-28. Although USC got the win, as many expected, the defense was the talk of the town after a 'disappointing' showing after all the new additions this past offseason.

The defense got absolutely hammered by many college experts and pundits, and although it was warranted (kind of), the defense improved mightly by the start of the second half. The transfers that the Trojans collected on the defensive side caught all the attention prior to the season; however, they have brought back some studs that are set to make an impact along with the transfers, including junior linebacker Eric Gentry

The kid from Philly picked up right where he left off. Here's how Gentry did in the six full drives that he played.

Gentry had the best season of his career in 2022, where he racked up 71 tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks, and one interception. The 6'6" 200-pound linebacker transferred in from Arizona State after the 2021 season, and he's been a force for the Trojans.

We'll need Gentry to duplicate his 2022 play or surpass it if the Trojans want to reach the next level and be a serious threat on the defensive side of the ball.

It's not entirely on Gentry, but we'll need him to do his thing to take USC to the next level.

We'll see what else he has in store for us starting this Saturday against the Nevada Wolfpack.
