USC Football: Opposing Pac-12 Defensive Coordinator Becomes Free Agent
USA TODAY Sports

The USC Trojans have a golden opportunity to add an  elite defensive coordinator . After this weekend, they have a chance to do so by potentially adding Oregon State defensive coordinator Trent Bray

It was announced that Bray will not leave Oregon State with former OSU head coach and new Michigan State head coach Jonathan Smith.

That leaves Bray as the only one not to go with Smith, which could open up the opportunity for him to leave, and USC could be there to snag him up. The Trojans need a new defensive coordinator, and Bray could fit that bill.

Bray led the Beavers to 37th in the county in opponent points per game, 40th in opponent yards per game, 48th in opponent yards per play, and 25th in opponent yards per rush.

The USC program and its fans are familiar with Bray's coaching, as he held the high-octane USC offense in 2022 to only 17 points. Although it resulted in a loss for the Beavers to see Caleb Williams and the USC offense struggle all game long, it spoke volumes to the defense and Bray.

Although it may be a good fit, we have to wait and see if head coach Lincoln Riley will make a run at Bray. There is a lot to think about, as Riley and the staff know they cannot mess this one up.

A ton of eyes will be on Riley, and if he can land a defensive coordinator, that can get the job done. These next few weeks, or however long it will take, will be interesting.
