USC star Caleb Williams trolls Texas in viral Instagram post ahead of Red River Shootout

USC quarterback Caleb Williams may no longer be with Oklahoma, but the former Sooners star is still feeling the rivalry with Texas. Williams went viral for an October 5, 2023 post to his Instagram Story that showed the quarterback throwing up the "horns down" sign that opponents often give when facing the Longhorns.

The Trojans signal-caller also tagged some of his former teammates as the Sooners prepared to take on the  Longhorns.

Williams transferred from Oklahoma to USC in February 2022 following head coach Lincoln Riley's move to Los Angeles. The quarterback shined during his freshman season at Oklahoma throwing for 1,912 yards, 21 touchdowns and 4 interceptions while completing 64.5% of his passes during his 11 appearances.

Oklahoma still has a loaded quarterback room with Dillon Gabriel and Jackson Arnold

Oklahoma fans would sure love to have Williams back, but the Sooners still possess a deep quarterback room of their own. Dillon Gabriel transferred to Oklahoma from UCF in 2022, and the Sooners also have former five-star recruit Jackson Arnold waiting for his opportunity.

"USC obviously has a great football history when it comes to national championships and Heisman winners," Williams told ESPN's Pete Thamel during a February 1, 2022 interview. "But aside from football, the school itself, and the city, gives me a chance to really seek out and explore other interests I have off the field."

Could Caleb Williams face Texas or Oklahoma in the College Football Playoff?

USC, Texas and Oklahoma are all contenders to make the College Football Playoff. It will be interesting to see if Williams faces a Red River team if the Trojans are able to punch their ticket as one of the four playoff teams. There are still plenty of roadblocks ahead that could prevent all three programs from making the playoff.
