USC Trojans lose commitment of elite 2025 four-star safety

Decommitments happen on the recruiting trail, even for such high-profile programs like USC.

With that said, this one has got to hurt for head coach Lincoln Riley and his staff. Anquon Fegans, four-star 2025 safety from Alabaster, Ala., announced his decommitment from the Trojans on Thursday.

Still just heading into his junior season of high school, one gets the sense that Fegans may have pulled the trigger for USC a bit prematurely. He committed to the Trojans on May 7, the same day his brother, cornerback Tre'Quon Fegans, committed himself to USC as a redshirt freshman transfer from Alabama.

Now a few months later, though, it seems as if the younger Fegans wants to reevaluate where certain schools stand with him, and he's not feeling picky at the moment.

“After talking with my family we decided to open my recruitment back up,” he told On3. “I’m going to explore my options. I’m starting back at square one and really looking at everyone.”

It's worth noting that Fegans will still consider USC and his brother is playing there, after all, so Riley and the Trojans have to feel they have somewhat of a chance to pick up a re-commitment from the four-star. With that said several big-time programs had been reaching out to Fegans before he decommited from USC.

That's a list that includes Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Oregon and Tennessee.

"Right now I’m planning on getting out to some games this fall to really get the full experience of different places," Fegans said.

According to 247Sports, Fegans is the No. 2 safety in the 2025 class as well as a Top 25 recruit nationally.
