Utah's Two-Way Star Sione Vaki Named Paul Hornung Award Finalist
USA TODAY Sports

Sione Vaki's unexpected season could land him some personal hardware to add to his trophy cabinet.

This year's Paul Hornung Award finalists have been announced and Utah's own Sione Vaki is among the prestigious grouping. The two-way beast of a man will be up against Colorado's Travis Hunter and Arizona State's Cameron Skattebo to be named the most versatile player in all the land. Just to be named with these two is an accomplishment within itself especially since there was no intention of Vaki ever being a running back, at least to our knowledge.

On the season, Vaki has 48 tackles, 2 sacks, and 1 interception while accumulating 239 yards on the ground for 2 touchdowns and 211 yards receiving for 3 touchdowns. Fellow finalist Travis Hunter has 26 tackles and 3 interceptions while also obtaining 532 receiving yards for 3 touchdowns. To round out the all-Pac-12 group, ASU's Cameron Skattebo has 626 rushing yards for 8 touchdowns, 280 receiving yards for 1 touchdown, and 85 passing yards for 1 touchdown. Out of the three, Vaki has by far and away had the most versatile and impactful season and while the winner won't be announced till March, fan voting is open for the Utah faithful to run up the numbers for the MVP of this season.

The award which started in 2010 has been won by some of the most influential names in football today. Shaq Thompson, SaQuon Barkley, Odell Beckham Jr., Christian McCaffery, and Devonta Smith are all recipients of the award which honors Packers legend "The Golden Boy" Paul Hornung and Sione Vaki could be the first Utah player to join the exclusive club.

With two games left in the season, Vaki could continue to strengthen his case for the award and solidify his standing when he faces finalist Travis Hunter in the last game of the year.
