UW Courting San Jose State LB Who has Husky Connection

Once San Jose State went through its recent football coaching change, linebacker Bryun Parham entered the transfer portal after three seasons with the Spartans to see what was out there for him.

One of his immediate suitors was a University of Washington program now headed up by Jedd Fisch and he's scheduled a Montlake visit for this coming weekend.

“Just how quickly they jumped in on me and contacted me and the good things I’ve heard about the school and staff,” Parham told On3.com of his UW interest..

Yes, he no doubt has heard all about the Huskies throughout his college football career in the Bay Area. His Spartans linebackers coach was Scott White, who was a 31-game starter for the UW in 2004-06 at both inside and outside linebacker.

Even with the coaching change to Ken Niumatalolo, White will remain at San Jose State for a seventh consecutive season. Only now, he'll likely have to plot things without the services of the playmaking Parham.

A three-year starter for the Spartans, Parham has made himself an intriguing possibility by piling up 199 career tackles and this past season getting named as an All-Mountain West honorable-mention selection for a 7-6 team that played in the Hawaii Bowl.

The Huskies find themselves in need of a veteran linebacker help after losing Edefuan Ulofoshio and Ralen Goforth to graduation.

After playing his high school football for Long Beach Poly, Parham was lightly recruited, and ended up choosing San Jose State over Fresno State, Idaho State and Nevada. Possibly his compact 5-foot-11, 212-pound frame held him back.

Yet Parham quickly showed he could play, becoming a starter midway through his freshman season known for his aggressive style. He has 11 tackles for loss, 6 pass break-ups, 5.5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles and an interception.

He'll take a look around Montlake and possibly report back to White, letting him know if he intends to follow in his Husky footsteps.
