Virginia Tech tight end apologizes for running over ODU fan
Connor Blumrick Vincent Carchietta-USA TODAY Sports

Old Dominion stunned Virginia Tech 20-17 on Friday night. Monarch fans stormed the field at the conclusion of the upset as Hokies players tried to get off the field. The combination led to Virginia Tech tight end Connor Blumrick laying out an unsuspecting Old Dominion fan.

Blumrick converted from quarterback to tight end this season. He was targeted twice in the game against Old Dominion but did not record a catch. On Sunday, Blumrick issued an apology:

“I would like to sincerely apologize to ODU and Hokie Nation for my actions after last night’s game. Following an emotional loss, in trying to get to the locker room safely, there was an incident including contact between myself and a fan, that I regret. This is not an accurate reflection of my character and I am truly sorry to those I have let down including my coaches, teammates and fans…”

It was a frustrating day for the Hokies. Brent Pry’s debut as Virginia Tech head coach didn’t go according to plan.

The Hokies turned over the ball five times, including four interceptions by quarterback Grant Wells. Additionally, their coaches also got stuck in an elevator at halftime. On top of all that, the Hokies discovered some players had items stolen from their lockers.

Old Dominion fans were prepped and ready to celebrate the upset win. However, the mixture of emotions led to Blumrick making contact with a fan.
