Virginia vs Coastal Carolina Prediction: Cavaliers, Chanticleers Upgraded Offenses About to Roll
© Matt Cashore-Imagn Images

Virginia was finally going to turn things back around.

It started 4-1, the defense was playing well, and things still looked good even after a tough loss to Louisville. But the team lost six of its last seven for the fifth straight year without a winning season.

Coastal Carolina suffered its first losing season since 2019, getting rim-rocked in a home Myrtle Beach Bowl game to UTSA. There's enough new talent to get better fast, and with Charleston Southern up next, it'll get off to a big start with a win.

Virginia won this last year, 43-24, in the first-ever meeting between the two. They'll crank up the offense again.

Location: Scott Stadium, Charlottesville, VA

Coastal Carolina Will Get the Passing Game Moving

It might not be like the Grayson McCall days, but the Chanticleers have the parts to start hitting more passes. Last year was a grind when it came to simply completing throws.

In comes MJ Morris from Maryland to try changing all of that. He'll push the ball around a little bit more, the running backs are good enough to take some of the pressure off, and the big yards should be there against the questionable Cavalier corners.

Virginia still has to prove its defense overall is better than last year, when it was among the worst in the ACC, but ...

Virginia Has Its Quarterback to Get Throwing

The Cavaliers were way too inconsistent. Interceptions in key moments were a big problem, and there was a big issue finishing off drives with points.

Chandler Morris was great for TCU when he was healthy. He threw for close to 4,000 yards with 31 touchdowns, and now Virginia has a guy to carry the offense.

After a bad year defensively, Coastal Carolina should be better in the secondary, but it's relying on a slew of transfers to make things better right away.

Virginia's Offense Will Take Over Again

Virginia put up a season-high 525 yards in the win over Coastal Carolina last year. It might not get there this time - it's not going to run for close to 400 yards again - but it'll mix it up enough to be in control of the game throughout.

The Chanticleers, though, will score just enough to keep the Cavaliers pushing.
