You want to talk about pressure? You want to get into the battle this weekend that really and truly matters? Winner goes to a bowl game, loser’s season is over, and it’s coming in an intense rivalry game that always packs a punch.

Virginia Tech has won three in a row in the series, and is 18-1 since 2003 - 2019 was the only break in the gloom for the Cavaliers.

Virginia can’t get that sixth win this season. It shocked Pitt a few weeks ago, but it’s on a run of five losses in the last six games, getting rocked by North Carolina, Notre Dame, and SMU along the way. On the other side, Virginia Tech really can’t get that sixth win.

The Hokies were 5-3 and rolling along after a strong win over Georgia Tech, but dropped the last three in rough, close fashion.

One win here, though, and everything will be okay.

Star Kyron Drones missed the Duke game last week, and veteran backup Collin Schlee was banged up in the loss to Clemson. Freshman Pop Watson did what he could, but he wasn’t accurate in the 31-28 loss to Duke.

Can the Hokie ground game and defense pick up the slack?

The Virginia offensive line is struggling, but Virginia Tech isn’t keeping defenses out of the backfield, either.

Both teams force takeaways, but Virginia Tech’s does it a little bit better.

You never mess with a streak, especially when the team on the right side of it is at home, but Virginia is about to push the Hokies for a full 60 minutes.

It won’t be pretty, but Virginia Tech will take it.
