College football recruiting visits are meant to build relationships and leave lasting impressions. This one left something else behind entirely.
Ja’Kobi Lane, the former USC wide receiver who declared for the 2026 NFL Draft in December, went public on Feb 23, accusing a high school recruit of stealing cleats and other gear directly from the Trojans’ locker room.
The recruit named is Brawley Tuitupou, a three-star prospect in the 2027 class from Mountain View High School in Orem, Utah. Lane shared a photo Tuitupou had posted online showing USC-branded gear.
The accusation spread fast. Dov Kleiman shared the post on X, putting it in front of a much wider audience.
: USC star WR Ja’Kobi Lane EXPOSED 3-star recruit Brawley Tuitupou for stealing his cleats and gear from his locker during a visit.

Lane did not mince words. His post on X read:
“This kid stole my cleats and a bunch of stuff from the sc locker room. All yall kids out there just know this is simply unacceptable.”

The photo Tuitupou had posted, which Lane used as evidence, showed socks, gloves, cleats, and apparel bearing USC’s branding. As of the time of writing, Tuitupou has not made any public response.
Tuitupou is listed at 6-foot-4 and 175 pounds. Recruiting services have him projected at both wide receiver and safety, depending on the program.
According to College Sports Network, Tuitupou visited USC on Nov 8, 2025, the same day the Trojans hosted Northwestern in a Big Ten regular-season game.
Lane spent three seasons at USC before declaring for the draft. In his final year with the Trojans, he recorded 49 receptions for 745 yards and four touchdowns in 11 appearances against a tough Big Ten schedule.
His decision to go public, rather than handle the matter privately, signals something. Players do not typically confront recruits this way. Calling someone out directly, with photographic evidence, in front of thousands is a different kind of statement.
Recruiting visits rely on trust. Programs open their facilities, their locker rooms, and their culture to prospects they hope will one day wear the same jersey. That access getting exploited, if the accusation holds up, is a problem that goes beyond one pair of cleats.
For a recruit trying to build a college future, this is a difficult spot. Programs recruiting Tuitupou will be watching how this plays out. His 2027 recruitment was still open entering this week.
Whether USC pursues this further internally or lets it sit publicly unresolved, the optics are already in motion. Lane’s post stands, and Tuitupou has yet to offer any counter to it.
