The Tennessee Vols, like most college football programs, are hoping to add some talent to their roster during the spring transfer window.
Specifically, Tennessee would like to add an experienced wide receiver to the roster, according to VolQuest's Brent Hubbs.
Hubbs joined 104.5 The Zone's Ramon, Kayla, and Will on Friday morning and he discussed the Vols' pursuit of a transfer wide receiver.
"Clearly Tennessee is looking for a receiver," said Hubbs. "They're trying to find another body, another person, to go into that young receiver room. I think that you don't really want to get a guy who's of the same makeup, or has the same resumé as what you have. And what I mean by that is you don't want a second year guy [who is] looking to burst onto the scene. You want somebody who's established, who's got a little tread on the tires.
"BYU transfer Keelan Marion is supposed to [visit Tennessee] this weekend. That's going to be a quick [visit]. He's going to be in and out, probably a one-day visit. We will see. How much (NIL money) is he looking for, what does that factor in from that standpoint? And then McNeese State's Jer’Michael Carter is another guy who's got some experience -- not at the Power-4 level, obviously -- but he does have experience. And I think that's a guy that Tennessee has interest in. He is supposed to visit early next week. The kid from San Jose State (TreyShun Hurry) was supposed to visit this past week, on Tuesday. On Wednesday, he committed to Louisville and never made it (to Tennessee). I think they want to add a receiver. Are they just going to add one to add one? I don't know about that. I think they want someone who has logged some snaps."
Tennessee's wide receiver room features plenty of young talent -- Mike Matthews, Braylon Staley, Boo Carter (primarily a defensive back), Travis Smith, and Radarious Jackson are all extremely talented -- but the only receiver that's played significant snaps at the collegiate level is returning starter Chris Brazzell. The Vols could use an experienced wide receiver to give that room a stronger foundation.
In addition to the names that Hubbs mentioned, Tennessee is also working to receive a visit from Georgia State transfer wide receiver Ted Hurst (according to On3's Pete Nakos). Hurst caught 56 passes for 961 yards and 9 touchdowns last season.
