Washington’s top Two Recruits on Signing Day

Washington has five top-150 recruits in its class of 2026 as National Signing Day gets underway. The group of five consists of one five-star and nine four-star. Highlighting the group are a pair of top-100 players in Kodi Greene and Gavin Day. Greene is a five-star at offensive tackle and ranks third nationally at his position. The Mater Dei High School senior flipped his commitment from Oregon to Washington in April of this year. Day is a four-star at safety who ranks seventh at his position nationally. The Las Vegas native chose the Huskies in June of this year. Both top recruits signed on Wednesday.

Tackle Kodi Greene

Big Ten size along the lines of scrimmage is not only a priority in this league, but it’s a necessity. The Husky coaching staff talked at length throughout the offseason and during the season about how they feel they’re moving in the right direction in terms of size. Five-star offensive lineman Kodi Greene is the next high-profile, physical blocker to fit that mold. At 6’-6” and 310 pounds, Greene possesses key traits for an offensive lineman in Jedd Fisch’s scheme. 

Washington’s run game is largely built on the zone run, requiring offensive linemen to get off and running, double-team defensive linemen, and shed into the next level defenders. Greene has the physical ability to get off the snap quickly, run and block, and move into the second level of the box. The Mater Dei High School lineman played right tackle as a junior and left tackle as a senior. In addition to his agility in run blocking, Greene is a quality pass blocker who has blocked for multiple years in the Trinity League, California’s most competitive division of high school football.

Safety Gavin Day

Ryan Walters’ defense gets safeties involved in the run game, and that’s where Day is likely to make an impact at the next level. Current Husky safety Alex McLaughlin led the team in tackles in the regular season with 89. That’s 20 more than any other player on the defense. He also recorded a team-high 36 stops from the box safety position. Day is listed at 6’-3”, which is one inch taller than McLaughlin. The future Husky has a skillset that can project into something similar to the impact McLaughlin has had on the defense this season.
