Most pre-game speeches aren’t made public, but I’m sure that plenty of coaches have a special talent with keeping them motivational and entertaining. Luckily for everyone, some of Oregon head coach Dan Lanning’s pre-game speeches have been made public. Here is the latest prior to Saturday’s home game against USC.

This is the latest of a growing string of impressive pre-game speeches. Some others occurred prior to games against Colorado in 2023 and then against Penn State and Oklahoma State earlier this season.

Against Colorado, the Deion Sanders led Buffaloes received this notable quote:

“The Cinderella story is over, man! They’re fighting for clicks, we’re fighting for wins. There’s a difference, right? This game ain’t gonna be played in Hollywood; it’s going to be played on grass”.

Against Oklahoma State, Lanning had a back-and-forth with then-head coach Mike Gundy, which led to this:

“The great thing about us is we don’t need any extra motivation to come in and want to whoop your ass. But it sure does help when the opponent pours a little gasoline on it, and they poured a little gasoline.”

And at Penn State, before the Nittany Lions’ annual white out game, Lanning had this to say:

“110,000 fans all wearing white? Looks like a white canvas to me. And we’re about to go paint our f**** masterpiece”

Lanning is one of the top head coaches in the country for a reason. But one of the biggest is that the players on his team love to play for him. His pregame speeches are just one small glimpse into why they do.
