The Mustangs lost to the visiting Cougars, 18-15. BYU's Will Ferrin kicked a game-winning 26-yard field goal with 1:58 left in the game. The SMU defense forced three turnovers but failed to score off any of them. SMU kicked Collin Rogers set a school record with five made field goals, including a 53 and a 52-yard kick. Running back Brashard Smith had 116 all-purpose yards. For BYU, quarterback Jake Retzlaff went 15-28 for 202 yards and a touchdown, with 10 carries for 35 yards.
