Watch: FSU Football's Mike Norvell Talks Spring Camp, Looks Ahead to 2024 Season

Florida State is headed into spring camp on March 18 after coming off of a successful ACC Championship season in 2023. The Seminoles will look a little different when they take the field for their annual Spring Showcase on April 20. FSU head coach Mike Norvell kicked off spring camp with the media on Monday to discuss the expectations of 2024 and how he attends to approach the next month of workouts.

The Seminole roster will look a lot different this upcoming season with 23 talented newcomers added to the depth chart. From transfers to blue-chip prospects, Norvell said that he was confident in bringing them on and excited about what is to come.

"You know, we felt really confident in who we were bringing in the program, but really throughout the last eight weeks, I mean they've proven that this is a place that they belong," Norvell said. "(I'm) obviously excited about what they bring you into our team, whether it's the High School freshmen that were able to join in early or some of the transfers that have come in, just definitely a great group."

One of the most significant changes will be at quarterback. With Jordan Travis off the roster and headed to the NFL, Florida State brought in Oregon State transfer quarterback DJ Uiagalelei to likely fill that void while Luke Kromenhoek and Brock Glenn continue to grow. Norvell said that it would be challenging for all three to continue to learn the system but that he wants it that way.

"There's going to be a lot that's thrown on them. We're going to manage that well, but I also want, I want them to be uncomfortable in some regards. I want them, I want them to feel that push and that urgency," Norvell continued But, uh, it's going to be a big fundamental focus for us, but it's also about making sure that we get the repetitions necessary to see where we are."

The Florida State defense will lose a massive amount of production on defense to the NFL and Norvell mentioned the number of players they played last year that would help soften that blow. They've also added talented newcomers and he thinks that it will be one of the fun groups to watch in spring. 

"You have some newcomers that have joined in. There's great competition, I think, when you look at our defensive backfield, and that's going to be one of the fun groups to watch of who, you know, who's going to continue to emerge because I know we have talented players back there."
