Pitt football kicked off its training camp on Wednesday down on the South Side, which marked the unofficial start of the 2024 season.

With that, head coach Pat Narduzzi took to the podium for the first time to address the media, answering questions regarding coaches, play style and more. Coming off of a 3-9 season, the lowest point under Narduzzi, he is tasked with turning around his program and returning the Panthers to ACC contention.

Narduzzi made it known that there is competition at every position and that includes at quarterback. Narduzzi stated that Yarnell would be the starting quarterback heading into camp after the spring game. On Wednesday, he left it up for interpretation but noted that Alabama transfer quarterback Eli Holstein is pushing for some time.

For the 2024 season, Pitt welcomes in an entirely new offensive coaching staff with a new-look offensive scheme under offensive coordinator Kade Bell. Narduzzi pointed out that he hopes the new coaches will instill new flavor into the staff and the way Pitt is run, specifically mentioning that he does not want “any yes-men. I want guys who are going to tell me how they feel, whether they are right are wrong.”

Another key point Narduzzi zeroed in on was the change in attitude this season, utilizing the moniker ‘Prove It.’ Pitt is looking to flip the narrative that it is not the 3-9 team it was a year ago. Narduzzi expressed that there is a different type of hunger surrounding this year’s team that is younger, but he feels has more talent than last year.
