A week after Utah utterly humiliated Colorado, the Buffaloes faced off against Arizona in their own backyard this Saturday (November 1). As a bonus, Colorado players found Shedeur Sanders as their biggest motivator.

Colorado needed all the help they could get. The Buffaloes were projected to experience a worse result compared to 2024, when they battled for the Big 12 title, but hardly anyone predicted a 3-5 start to the season, which included a 53-7 drubbing by Utah.

Deion Sanders called for a complete reset ahead of the Arizona game and push for a bowl game. Prime wanted his team to fight for every point in front of the 50,000 fans at Folsom Field.

Fans cheered as Shedeur Sanders walked onto the field wearing an oversized t-shirt that a displayed a cryptic message: “The rejected will be respected.

Colorado played as badly as a team can play. By halftime, the score stood at 38-7 as Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter threw for just 49 passing yards and turned the ball over twice (one fumble and one interception) before Prime replaced him with Ryan Staub.

The veteran shot caller wasn’t any better either. Staub threw two completions, both times they found an Arizona defender. True freshman and five star recruit Julian Lewis was the next to walk in. He threw one touchdown pass to Omarion Miller and played deep into garbage time in the fourth quarter before Colorado’s fourth stringer, Dominiq Ponder finished off the game.

While the quarterback carousal was in motion for Colorado, Arizona added fourteen more points in the second half. Star quarterback Noah Fifita completed 11 passes from 19 attempts for 213 yards and threw 4 touchdowns. Arizona recorded a 52-17 victory, which improved their record to 5-3. The Buffaloes, on the other hand, are 3-6 and third from the bottom in the conference.

Deion Sanders asked the media to blame him for the loss against Arizona

The win over Iowa in week seven seemed like a new chapter in the ever changing Colorado story. The Buffs were once again viewed as a top team despite carrying three losses. Salter remained as the main man to lead the team from under center.

The fixture in Utah brought Colorado back down to earth. Sanders blamed himself for the defeat and promised an improved performance against Arizona. The only improvement the Buffs witnessed was an extra touchdown pass as the outcome remained the same as the previous five defeats.

A dejected Sanders sat in front of the media at the post game presser and defended his crew by taking the blame for the defeat on himself.

Don’t attack the coordinators. Don’t attack the players. Come at me. This has nothing to do with them. It’s on me.

Deion Sanders said

The NFL hall of famer admitted that his team lacked the discipline across the four quarters, giving away too many penalties.

Fourteen penalties tonight [against Arizona] for 110 yards [13 penalties for 105 yards]. It’s probably a record since I’ve been here. Doesn’t make sense. Especially when I think we’ve been rated in the top, got to be top 25 or whatever, penalties this season. We’ve been doing good. Today, just horrible penalty-wise. Horrible.

The Boulder Daily Camera‘s Brian Howell claimed that the CU players looked like that they were “checked out”

[Colorado] had a season-high five turnovers, as well as a season-high 13 penalties for 105 yards. All that to an Arizona team that had lost five in a row on the road… At this point, however, it doesn’t seem to matter where the Buffs [3-6, 1-5 Big 12] play. Coming off the loss at Utah, the Buffs looked checked out against the Wildcats [5-3, 2-3], who snapped a two-game losing streak.

The Buffs still have three games left on their calender before the end of the campaign. Next week, they take on West Virginia before finishing off the year by facing Arizona State and Kansas State.
