Quinn Ewers is the starting quarterback of the Texas Longhorns, and he doesn't need any backup.
It doesn't matter if said backup has "great hair and famous relatives."
That's the line Ewers dropped in the new "Fansville" commercial for Dr. Pepper. He plays deputy Quinn Ewers, who finds himself in a tense situation with one of the veterans on the force.
Things look tense enough that the veteran cop wants junior deputy Ewers to call for backup, but that's something Texas' star quarterback just doesn't want to do:

At the end of the commercial, he reminds his partner that he led Texas to the College Football Playoff last season "without any backup".
It's all a funny jab at Ewers' backup quarterback at Texas, Arch Manning, a former five-star recruit and the nephew of two of the greatest to ever do it: Eli Manning and Peyton Manning.
Manning may be, well, a Manning, but Ewers has proven to be one of the best quarterbacks in college football and a likely top pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
And as long as he's healthy and in Austin, Manning will continue to be QB2.
