Watch: Two No. 3s on one play proves costly for Florida against Utah

Florida needs to do a better job of coordinating its outfits.

On a Utah punt attempt in the second quarter, two Florida Gators players were wearing the same jersey number, resulting in a penalty.

It's common practice in college football for players to share jersey numbers with rosters being much larger than in the NFL. What's far less usual is two players wearing the same number to be on the field at the same time.

Cornerback Jason Marshall Jr. and wide receiver Eugene Wilson III are No. 3 for the Gators and somehow, both inexplicably ended up on the special teams unit on the fourth-and-3.

The procedural flag resulted in a five-yard penalty and allowed Utah to retain possession.

The Utes made the most of their second life, scoring a touchdown to increase their lead to 14-3.

Quarterback Nate Johnson was thrust into a bigger role along with Bryson Barnes due to Cam Rising (knee) being unavailable and scored on a 27-yard touchdown run to cap the drive.

Florida is coming off back-to-back losing seasons for the first time since 1978-79. The program hasn't had a losing record in three consecutive seasons since 1945-47. Head coach Billy Napier, entering his second season, needs a strong showing this year to avoid an abrupt exit.

He isn't off to a good start.
