The Weber State Wildcats made college football history on Saturday, dubious history, but history nonetheless. 

In a 43-38 loss to the Montana State Bobcats, safeties were the difference. And no, you're eyes aren't deceiving you, safeties played a huge role in the game. 

Weber State earned a Division I record against the Bobcats, committing four safeties en route to their first loss of the 2022 season. 

It couldn't have been a worse day for Wildcat's long snapper Grant Sands, as all four safeties came off botched snaps while Weber State was attempting to punt. 

The first safety of the day actually put Montana State on the board, cutting an early Wildcats' lead down to 3-2 in the first quarter. 

Midway through the second quarter, with Weber State cruising 24-9, disaster struck again as another snap sailed through the back of the end zone.   

It happened again with less than two minutes to go in the opening half cutting Weber State's lead to just a field goal at 24-21. 

Early in the second half, with Montana State now in the lead, Weber State added one more safety for good measure, though this one had to be kicked out of the back of the end zone by punter Jack Burgess.
