“We’re the LSU Fightin’ Tigers, we play with swagger”: Star defender proudly proclaims new identity after win

The LSU Tigers rode the wave of a revamped defense that was aided heavily by the transfer portal, but two incumbents still defined the unit as much as anyone else. The 17-10 win left Clemson stunned, and the manner in which LSU won was especially surprising. An offensive shootout would've fit the program's identity from 2024, but a sharp turn in how they executed on defense defined the game's narrative.

Brian Kelly's Tigers were tougher, more precise, disciplined, and timely with playmaking. They were the better team, and few would've expected it to be LSU's defense to be the positive storyline. However, LSU's stars and foundational pieces were proud to have stood up to Cade Klubnik and the Clemson offense, and they weren't surprised.

Weeks made it clear this is the program he and the staff sought out to become. “We’re the LSU Fightin’ Tigers, we’re going to play with some swagger,” he proclaimed after beating Clemson.

Weeks, a Preseason All-American, was one of the most productive players on the field in this matchup. He logged three quarterback hits and one hurry, plus two tackles while lining up at linebacker and a slot defender. His versatility and explosiveness worked as well as ever, and his teammates benefited from his chaotic style.

That included his brother, West Weeks. West Weeks tied PJ Woodland and Harold Perkins with five total tackles. The linebacker unit was fantastic, and the defensive line set the stage for all of it to be possible.

With Florida and Ole Miss on LSU's schedule in two of the next four weeks, there's not much time for the Tigers to relax. They'll host Louisiana Tech next week first, then be in the bayou until Sept. 27 when they travel to Oxford to face the Rebels.
