Kane Wommack believes redshirt sophomore defensive end, Keon Keeley needs to prove he can be productive on a consistent basis before he plays meaningful snaps.
Keeley continues to garner expectations from Wommack, the Crimson Tide’s defensive staff and the Alabama fan base after signing with the Crimson Tide as a five-star recruit.
The Florida product has continued to make strides since moving to the bandit position. However, there appears to be something left to be desired from Keeley. Wommack shed some light on this while describing what he wants to see from the 6-foot-6, 245-pounder as the season inches closer.
“Keon is obviously just a frame that is athletic and can move around,” Wommack said to reporters Wednesday after practice. “He’s got to become more and more consistent in the things that he’s doing. He’s taken some strides, but there’s a little bit of back and forth on some of those things as well in fall camp, as well. So as we push these guys, he’s gotta show a little bit more consistency to continue to move up the depth chart. But the skill level is there, the want-to is there. It’s just going to be about continuing to take the next step.”
With Wommack returning multiple starters at the Tide’s Bandit position and Keeley’s continued development, it’ll be interesting to see how the Florida native can be a factor on defense for Alabama football in 2025.
