What will Nevada Football look like without Carson Strong?

It is hard to replace a quarterback who led the 6th best passing offense in the country. This is exactly what Nevada needs to do in replacing Carson Strong, who left for the NFL. How will Nevada Football deal with the departure of Carson Strong, and what will their offense look like?

Carson Strong 2021 Stats

Strong is a two-time Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year. He had a great statistical season at Nevada during the 2021 season.

Who will replace Carson Strong?

Heading into the spring season, Nevada has five quarterbacks listed on their roster. 

Nate Cox is a fifth-year senior who was poised to take the starting job in 2022 after backing up Strong. However, a DUI charge in June has put that into question. 

After Cox, experience is a rarity. Quarterbacks Jonah Chong and Jake Barlage have not registered a single appearance for the Wolfpack. 

Furthermore, sophomore Drew Scolari joins Chong and Barlage as Nevada quarterbacks who do not have an appearance for the Wolfpack. 

The only other quarterback with a relative college football appearance is Baylor Hourning. Hourning was deep on fellow Mountain West school, San Diego State’s, roster, and he decided to transfer to the Wolfpack. 

A lot of questions are surrounding Nevada’s offense

Quite obviously, quarterback is the most important position on the offensive side of the football. Nevada seems to be in a tough place on who will replace their former two-time Mountain West offensive player of the year quarterback. 

Not only did Nevada lose their star quarterback, but they also lost a variety of other weapons and talent on the offensive side of the football. 

Star wide receiver Romeo Doubs now plays for the Green Bay Packers. Not only is there no star quarterback, but their best receiver is also in the NFL.

What will Nevada Football look like without Carson Strong?

Nevada football will be under a serious rebuilding year. The offense looks like it is going to struggle without a true option at quarterback. Most likely, there will be a rotation of different quarterbacks throughout the season. 

Furthermore, in 2021, the Wolfpack had the worst scoring defense in the Mountain West, and the defense seems slightly worse than last year.
