The Tennessee Vols and the Syracuse Orange don't face off for another three-plus weeks, but the trash talk is already underway.
Syracuse redshirt freshman linebacker Fatim Diggs was asked this past week about the opportunity to play a Tennessee team that reached the College Football Playoff in 2024.
Diggs made it clear that Syracuse is looking to prove a point against the Volunteers.
'It'll be great for us to go out there and show them what we do in the ACC and give them a tough game," said Diggs. "No matter what, we want to stay where our feet are right now. But when that game comes, we'll show people how we really get down. And that conference stuff, like, it matters, but it really don't matter."
Game on.
Syracuse certainly looks motivated to make a statement against Tennessee.
The Vols will have to match that energy if they want to avoid getting upset in Atlanta on August 30.
Syracuse and Tennessee are both coming off 10-win seasons. Both programs will also be turning to new starting quarterbacks in 2025.
Tennessee is the more talented team, but that doesn't make this an automatic win for the Vols. Syracuse is more than capable of pulling off the upset if Tennessee doesn't bring its A-game.
