Where Tennessee Vols' offensive line ranks in the SEC according to 247Sports
Jordan Prather-USA TODAY Sports

247Sports recently ranked the top offensive lines in the SEC and the Tennessee Vols made their top five.

Barely.

Tennessee's offensive line is ranked by 247Sports at No. 5 in the SEC entering the 2024 season.

From 247Sports: The feeling around Knoxville is that if Tennessee's offensive line can stay healthy, the sky's the limit for this new-look offense with Nico Iamaleava taking over at quarterback. Part of that is due to nearly 100 combined starts returning between Cooper Mays, John Campbell Jr., and Javontez Spraggins. And Tennessee improved at tackle with the addition of top transfer Lance Heard from LSU, a former five-star signee for the Tigers. Mays at center, like most tempo-based schemes, is the key cog in getting this group to function with precision.

If everyone stays healthy for Tennessee, the Vols arguably have a top three offensive line unit in the SEC. But staying healthy is the key.

Tennessee's starting five (though the starting left guard job is still up in the air) is as good as it gets in the SEC. Cooper Mays is a preseason All-American at center. And Lance Heard and John Campbell both have NFL potential at the tackle positions. Additionally, right guard Javontez Spraggins has a ton of SEC experience (he's made 36 starts at right guard for the Vols).

Depth is Tennessee's only issue along the offensive line. The Vols have some talented options waiting in the wings, but those options are unproven in the SEC. That lack of proven depth is likely what kept Tennessee from being ranked a bit higher in 247Sports' offensive line rankings.
