Why Alabama DL Keon Keeley is trending in right direction ahead of bowl game
Gary Cosby Jr.-Tuscaloosa News / USA TODAY NETWORK

Keon Keeley has yet to establish himself on Alabama football’s defense, but the Crimson Tide’s defensive coordinator, Kane Wommack is optimistic about the Florida product’s future.

Keeley is a former five-star edge linebacker prospect, who has transition into a full-time defensive lineman. He is now working closely with Alabama’s defensive line coach Freddie Roach and it is starting to pay off.

Wommack spoke highly of Keeley on Wednesday.

“I’m as excited as I’ve ever been about Keon Keeley,” Wommack said. “I think Keon was a very highly-touted player out of high school…let’s not pigeonhole him and put him in a box. If you are this position or that position, let him develop, you know, as all big people do. It takes years to do that. Then he is getting more and more comfortable with the defense. But there were some plays that he made out there even today that I’m sitting there going, this guy is trending in the right direction. Keon Keeley will be a good player here at Alabama.”

The Tide’s showed it can go deep into its depth chart during the 2024 season. This points to an opportunity for Keeley to compete for more snaps on next season.
