Why Steve Sarkisian Thinks College Football Teams Will No Longer Go Undefeated

Dominance might just be a staple in the realm of college football. While there is parity within conferences and even in cross-conference clashes, certain programs just seem to have an insane year. Coach Steve Sarkisian of the  Texas Longhorns posits that this regular sight may turn into an impossible feat starting from the 2025 season.

The SEC and college football as a whole are now very different from what they were half a decade ago. Trends like the NIL and transfer portal have kept college programs like Texas on their feet. These were enough to push Coach Steve Sarkisian to make a very bold claim, via Blake Toppmeyer of USA Today.

“This idea of somebody is going to go 16-0 in college football, man, put a statue up somewhere of that team. I just don’t know if that’s going to happen again," the Texas head honcho said.

Notably, Coach Ryan Day's Ohio State program could not pull off a perfect season despite their dominance in the Big Ten Conference and College Football Playoff. The last undefeated team in college football was the Michigan Wolverines in 2023.

The Texas coach's claim came off as spicy because it seemed to be contradictory to what history says. Since the year 2000, there have been 17 seasons where a team went without a loss. There have also been times when multiple squads went on to go undefeated in a single season just like in 2004, 2009, and 2010.

Will Sarkisian's words come to life and jinx any chances of a squad winning every game en route to the College Football Playoff?
