After noticing that Bryan Sanborn wasn’t listed on the Wisconsin Badgers spring football roster, we’ve found the explanation behind his omission.
On Thursday, Sanborn announced on social media that he would be medically retiring from football to prioritize his health.
“After a lot of weeks of long talks with my family and trainers, I have decided to medically retire from the game of football,” Sanborn wrote. “I can not thank football enough for so many great relationships and memories that I will cherish forever.
“In the last couple of seasons, I have battled several back injuries, and it is time that I take priority over the only body I have and protect it for my future years to come. Thank you to Badger nations for the love and support you show the team every Saturday, I will forever be proud to be a Badger.”

Bryan Sanborn, the brother of Badgers star Jack Sanborn, initially joined the Wisconsin football program as a four-star linebacker recruit in the 2021 cycle under Paul Chryst.
He chose the Badgers over offers from Cincinnati, Iowa, Iowa State, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Vanderbilt.
During his Wisconsin football career, Sanborn appeared in 17 games, primarily on special teams, and recorded eight tackles. He also played 18 defensive snaps in 2022 and finished with an elite grade of 85.8, according to Pro Football Focus, despite the limited sample size.
I Wish Sanborn all the best as he embarks on the next chapter of his journey. Kudos to him for making his health a top priority.
