Wisconsin Football Listed Among Contenders for USC Transfer Quarterback
Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

With the college football transfer portal officially opening on Dec. 9, the speculation around where top players will land is already heating up.

Among the notable names set to hit the open market is USC quarterback Miller Moss, a former four-star recruit looking for a fresh start after four seasons in Los Angeles, three of which came under head coach Lincoln Riley.

Moss, who started nine games for the Trojans in 2024, threw for 2,555 yards, 18 touchdowns, and nine interceptions before being benched in favor of Jayden Maiava. Moss entered the portal with one year of eligibility left.

According to Pro Football Focus, Moss achieved an offensive grade of 79.9 and earned a 77.4 mark as a passer.

In anticipation of what's expected to be a long list of suitors in the California native's services, BetCalifornia.com has released odds for the signal-caller's next transfer destination. Auburn leads the pack with odds currently set at +550, followed by Louisville, Michigan, Iowa, Northwestern, and Miami.

The Wisconsin Badgers are listed at +1500, giving the Badgers a 6.3% implied chance of landing Moss.

While the odds don’t favor the Badgers, Luke Fickell and his staff face a glaring need at quarterback. Tyler Van Dyke’s recovery from an ACL injury leaves his availability for next season uncertain, and Braedyn Locke didn’t show enough to be a reliable option moving forward.

With Mabrey Mettauer and incoming freshmen Carter Smith and Landyn Locke unlikely to contend for the starting job, finding a transfer QB feels more like a necessity than an option.

There have been rumblings that Wisconsin could be among the programs eyeing Moss—realistic or not. The Badgers are still in the process of hiring an offensive coordinator after parting ways with Phil Longo, signaling a shift toward a pro-style offense with the ability to be multiple.

Whether Moss aligns with what Fickell envisions at quarterback—or if Wisconsin has the NIL resources to make it happen—remains to be seen.
